B is for Baby is Shortlisted for the 2020 Booktrust Storytime Prize! May 2020.

I am so happy to be part of only 6 great books to be shortlisted for the BookTrust Storytime Prize.

This prize recognises the vital role that picture books play in getting children reading from an early age.

When my children were little, we read picture books all the time - they were a lifesaver!

They enjoyed them and so did I! It introduced them to art and varied visual languages.

At storytime we went on journies together and made discoveries and special memories.

“BookTrust set up this prize to give credit to the wonderful authors and illustrators that create the books which give families so much pleasure, before children can read themselves or even talk.  These are the books that will have families cuddled up on the sofa creating memories that last a lifetime, creating bonds and helping with emotional wellbeing, empathy and character development.”

-- Diana Gerald BookTrust’s CEO

The six books nominated books are:

• B is for Baby By Atinuke and Angela Brooksbank (Walker Books)

• Go Go Pirate Boat  By Katrina Charman and Nick Sharratt (Bloomsbury)

• I’m a Tiger by Karl Newson and Ross Collins (Macmillan)

• My Hair by Hannah Lee and Allen Fatimaharan (Faber Childrens)

• This is Owl by Libby Walden and Jacqui Lee (Caterpillar Books)

• 123 Do the Dinosaur by Michelle Robinson and Ros Beardshaw (Egmont)

The shortlisted books were selected by a panel of children’s reading experts based on a range of criteria which included having an engaging narrative and illustrations; stimulating the imagination and encouraging interaction; as well as reflecting a diversity of backgrounds. To find a winner, the six shortlisted books were shared with hundreds of children, carers and families via virtual reading sessions by public librarians across the country between end of May and mid-September. Eleven librarians from all English regions, Wales and NI hosted storytime sessions online via Facebook Live and Zoom.
